BENE PIZZA+PASTA

Bene Pizza+Pasta, located in Kowloon’s Olympian City 2, offers an inviting, casual atmosphere for those who want to pop in at any hour to enjoy authentic Italian dishes. “Bene” in Italian means “good,” and we loved how Bene Pizza+Pasta offers up a stylish interior filled with images of ripe tomatoes on the walls. Bene is perfect for a friendly gathering, but the venue is not very large, so big groups will definitely want to book tables a day or two in advance.

Bene’s atmosphere lived up to its name, but what of the food? Upon opening the menu, we were certainly impressed by the variety on display. There were eleven different homemade pastas and Neapolitan-style pizzas, as well as soups, sandwiches and lasagna all available. Our favorite pasta dishes were the Spaghetti Carbonara (HK $78), which featured egg with Pecorino cheese sauce, a combo of good taste and home-style feel—something you might find in the kitchen of an Italian friend. The other choice pasta dish was the Bologna-style Tagliatelle (HK $88) with traditional Italian beef ragout sauce. We also sampled one of the pizzas, the Smoked Duck Prosciutto with spring onions and sausages (HK $128). It was a hearty mixture of meat and vegetable flavours that solidly complimented the pasta, and the crunchy crust and excellent presentation instantly promoted Bene to our list of "good pizza suppliers" in Hong Kong. Some of the other pizzas on the menu that we wanted to order (but couldn’t, since we were too full) were the Spicy Italian Salami pizza with black olives and tomatoes (HK $118) and the Margherita with basil and mozzarella cheese (HK $98). We’ll be sure to try them on a return visit.

Pizza and pasta aren’t the only cuisines available at Bene. Salads are also on the menu, and the Raw Lean Beef Carpaccio Salad with shaved parmesan cheese (HK $88) is a popular favorite. And to top it all off, there are plenty of deserts available, although we were too stuffed from pizza and pasta to try them. We did, however, do as the Italians do, and ordered a hot cup of Marocchino coffee (HK $48) with rich chocolate and steamed milk after the meal. Overall, it was a tasty end to an afternoon of delicious flavours, and we'd certainly recommend Bene to anyone who wants a classic slice of Italian heaven in their day.
